Tabletop RPG Review: GM Gems

The folks at Goodman Games have put together a collection of useful charts and pregenerated things to drop into your game.  Though what mechanics are present are tailored for Dungeon Crawl Classics, the book is at least somewhat system neutral.  It does certainly lean toward Fantasy, though I’m sure you could find uses for some stuff in other genres.

As with most random charts, the best use is likely in session and encounter design, as opposed to rolling at the table, in the moment.  It’s divided into three main sections.  The first is devoted to urban settings.  I think my favorite bit in here is the random dockside events.  Though NPC frills are cool, too.  The second part is about travel and my favorite part  is probably the examples of strange weather.  Finally there’s a section on dungeons where my favorite bit is about interesting light sources.

Is this a “must have” for a DCC judge?  No, probably not.  However, it’s a cool book that I imagine I’ll be getting quite a bit of use out of, and if it seems at all useful to you, pick it up.

Check out my Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or Goodreads.  And take a look at my Patreon page, where I’m working on a novel and developing a tabletop RPG setting. I’m proud to be an affiliate of DriveThru RPG. I’m an independent author. You can also read my fiction over on Amazon. A rating & review would make a world of difference.
