Comic Review: Billy the Kid’s Old Timey Oddities Book 1 & 2

Eric Powell and Kyle Hotz bring us a fun, ghoulish adventure yarn.  Billy the Kid survived his assassination thanks to some mistaken identity.  On the run and trying to keep a low profile, he ends up working for a traveling “freak show.”
The first book sees the group travel to Europe to find Dr. Frankenstein and the Golem’s Heart.  But secrets abound.  I’m reminded of old E.C. Comics, American International and Hammer Horror, and Hellboy.  It’s a darned fun mix.

The second book follows the band to London, currently haunted by Jack the Ripper.  They get mixed up with more literary and historical figures as the blood flows.  I have to admit, I didn’t see the final twist coming.

I really enjoyed these books.  They may not break a lot of new ground, but they’re fun reads.  Apparently there’s at least a third volume, but I don’t have it and I saw it going for far more than I’m going to pay for it.  So, I don’t know what happens at Loch Ness.

I’m proud to be an affiliate of DriveThru RPG. I’m an independent author. You can also read my fiction over on Amazon. A rating & review would make a world of difference.
