Comic Review: ApocalyptiGirl

ApocalyptiGirl

Andrew MacLean’s ApocalyptiGirl is an odd mix of beautiful colors and ugly characters.  The ugly character design works.  It actually reminds me a bit of Samurai Jack.  And it fits the far future, post apocalyptic setting.

A young woman and her cat rove a ruined future Earth, looking for salvageable material, while also searching for an elusive signal.  There are lots of hidden dangers.  There’s a very sad subplot about a scout from a hostile tribe that is told mostly without dialog that’s quite good.

The comic is fairly short, being just shy of 90 pages.  But it’s good and worth tracking down.  The big reveal at the end is interesting, and makes me curious if MacLean plans to revisit the setting at some point.
